5 Pool Maintenance Tricks You Need to Try

Most pools require the same maintenance schedule, as long as a pool owner takes care of regular maintenance projects such as chemical care and cleaning. However, there are additional tasks you can use to help save you time and effort without breaking the bank.

If you’re tired of the same old pool maintenance, check out these tips and tricks you can use to enhance your next cleaning routine:

Baking Soda

Most pools that sell pool cleaner often advertising “Alkalinity Increaser,” a product used for maintaining PH levels in a pool. But did you know that everyday baking soda can do the same thing? Opting for baking soda instead of a name brand cleaner is guaranteed to save you money. Not sure how much to use? A google search will tell you how much baking soda you will need for a pool your size.

Use a Tennis Ball

Toss a standard tennis ball into the pool and let it float. The tennis ball will soak up all of the extra oils and chemicals that don’t belong in the pool.

Tile Line

Residue, dirt, and contaminants can form over time and stick along the water line and tile area. Clean this area on a weekly basis to reduce the rate at which the pool gets dirty. Weekly cleaning of this area also reduces calcium buildup. Clean the cement and pool walkways to reduce the transference of dirt and grime into the water.

Keep It Cool

Keeping your pool above 82 degrees at all times adds up on your monthly electricity bill. Cut back on energy costs by using a solar cover on the water, or consider investing in a solar powered pool heater.

Track Water Usage

Although environmental factors such as humidity and temperature will influence the rate at which the pool loses water, the average water loss shouldn’t be more than a quarter of an inch per day. Place a weighted bucket on the stairs of your pool and mark the water level on the side of the bucket. Noticeable drops in water level might be signs of a leak in the pool.

A well-maintained pool is guaranteed to save you money in the long run. Using these easy and unique pool maintenance tips will help you keep a clean pool all season long and require less maintenance and time spent dumping chemicals into the water.
